The Cornish Pirates give the advantage back to Royal Cornwall Hospital

The Cornish Pirates are teaming up with staff from Royal Cornwall Hospital (RCHT) to Try and run a toy appeal for the Clinical Imaging department. RCHT’s Clinical Imaging service runs across Cornwall, screening both adults and children which can be a daunting experience for everyone.
When children have scans they can be very nervous and scared; but the team have one technique that almost always works, to give away a toy. However, these toys are running out so the Cornish Pirates have decided to tackle this problem head on and ask their supporters to help and donate.

Katie Giles, Consultant in Radiography, said,

“Hospitals are unfamiliar and can be scary for most little ones, but a toy can make all the difference. A simple toy can calm a paediatric patient down or distract them from machines and teams working around them. We are asking people to donate new toys so we can keep making our patients more comfortable and reward them for being brave.”

As well as running a toy appeal The Cornish Pirates will be fundraising at their match against Doncaster Knights, on the 26th March at Mennaye, Penzance. Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity will have volunteers collecting money from the crowd to help buy additional toys for children to take home with them as well as toys that suitable to stay within the department at RCHT.

If you would like to take part, please ensure all toys are new with no choking hazards or lose parts. The Pirates office will be open weekdays between 9-12pm for you to turn-over your donations. If you would like to find out more please contact Robyn on 01736 335318. The drop off zone is Westholme, Alexandra Road, Penzance, Cornwall TR18 4LY.
