St Austell Running Club donate £500 to Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity

Once a year Imerys Minerals Ltd (Imerys) open the Cornwall China Clay Industrial Land to give a unique running experience giving you the chance to run a half and full marathon. The Imerys Marathon has been running since 2012 and each year any profits are donated to a local charity, Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity was chosen in 2016!
Last week Becky and Helen, who both work for Imerys and run in the St Austell Running Club, donated £500 to Dr Andy Virr, consultant in Emergency Medicine.

Helen said, “St Austell Running Club has over 200 members and we work in conjunction with Imerys to make the Marathon a challenging and exciting event, the fact we can donate money to a local charity makes it even more worthwhile.” Becky added, “Everyone in Cornwall relies on Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust and we wanted to say a Thank You to all the staff who work endlessly to care for us.”

Dr Andy Virr thanked Imerys Minerals Ltd for opening the land and allowing the event to take place and all the runners who took on this challenge! “The General Fund is available to all staff at the Trust and it specifically supports a campaign called 12 Days of Christmas”, explains Dr Virr, “The Emergency Department has benefitted from the 12 Days of Christmas and the general fund too. We have been able to purchase an Ice Machine for swollen joints and sport injuries, state of the art hi-tech clocks for assessing patients in Resus and most recently Patient Pump Bridges. These are devises used to go over patients to help carry equipment when patients are being moved around different departments. We used to pop these items on the patients beds but they can be quite heavy and cumbersome so these bridges really help make patients more comfortable.”

Imerys are also offering a FREE spot for 1 RCHT employee to run, either, the half or full marathon at this year’s event. If you would like to be in the running for this free space, please email Maxine at RCHT.Charity@nhs.net, all entries must be made by the 6th March 2017.
