A step in the right direction

Friends of the Royal Cornwall Hospitals’ chairman Beatrice Dyer met with Assistant Practitioner for Clinical Oncology Liz Betts last week to receive delivery of a new Simple-Up patient lift platform.

“The simple-Up is a radiography patient lift platform, which allows the radiographer to elevate the patient to a practical working height”, explains Liz. “The equipment is already having a tremendous impact on our department, giving patients a real sense of independence. The benefits of the lift are wide-ranging.”

The purchase of the equipment, which cost over £9000, was made possible through donations from the Friends of the RCH. “These are the little things that make all the difference” adds Beatrice, who oversaw delivery of the new equipment to the Sunrise Centre at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. “Equipment like this is incredibly important. It not only assists health and safety it also benefits people’s comfort and adds to the patient experience.”

Liz agrees, adding: “The lift easily and safely removes the risk of falls, offers greater flexibility for patient positioning and also allows for improved posture and positioning for the radiographer. We’re incredibly grateful to the Friends of the RCH for making this purchase possible.”
