Allez, Allez Makes Way for Oggy Oggy Oggy in Cycle Challenge

This page was last updated: October 15th, 2021

The Covid Pandemic twice scuppered plans for a charity cycle from London to Paris so the wheels were put in motion as Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity brought the challenge to Cornwall.

12 cyclists (11 RCHT NHS staff and 1 past patient) completed the RCHT Charity Pedal 4 Patients Cycle, riding just over 200 miles in 3 days, Plymouth – Bude – Newquay – Land’s End. Raising over £26,000 for RCHT Charity funds and counting.

“Completing the new route really was an epic achievement with such an undulating route taking in some of the finest scenery in the South West. The team cycled long days through fog, sun and some good old mizzle to the finish line where friends and family waited to congratulate them,” said Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager for RCHT Charity.

“Well done to them all, after two years of training and fundraising, due to the postponement and then cancelled London to Paris Challenge – this has been a test of endurance, motivation and determination both on and off their bikes!” Karen added.

RCHT Charity Community Fundraiser Lynne Lees said ‘having been with our cyclists every pedal of the way for two years I was privileged to be with them as they finally undertook this immense challenge. The Pedal 4 Patients team members all personify our RCHT values of trust, respect, inspiration, pride, achievement and working together. They’ve all made a difference to the people of Cornwall who have to spend time with us and I couldn’t be prouder. Who needs Paris when it’s Kernow Bys Vyken!’

The cyclists were supported incomparably by Sustrans, Kapar Security, RCHT Sustenation, Cornwall Signs, 4×4 Cornwall and Kier Construction and we’re all extremely grateful for their staunch support and friendship.
