Butterfly Cornwall support creation of Quiet Room

Donations to the Cornwall Butterfly Fund are continuing to make a difference across the Trust for patients and their families.
Recently a space located in the Outpatients Department was converted into a Quiet Room a space for patients and relatives needing comfort and calm at a difficult time.

Sonia Ellis, Lung Cancer Support Nurse at the Trust explains how the room has already been important for patients,

“The room has been very useful as a quiet, private place to take patients and relatives after the breaking of bad news in clinic. The space provides time, out of a busy clinic, for patients to absorb bad news and for me, to have an area near to the clinic, where I can provide emotional support, give information or listen to concerns, so that the patients and their relatives feel valued and not rushed at a very distressing time in their lives.

This room is a valuable space for support and reflection.”

Specialist Nurse in Palliative Care, Liz Thomas and the team were keen to support the creation of the room and made use of donated funds to give the room a comfortable feel.

“It has been lovely to see this space created and utilised for our patients and families Our hope is that in the future the trust will have more rooms like this.”
