Andrew Collinson

I have been a Paediatric and Neonatal Consultant at RCHT for 5 years. I am currently Operational Lead Consultant for the RCHT Neonatal Service. I have served as RCHT Medical Joint Director for Infection Prevention and Control since December 2013. I have clinical and research interests in neonatology and childhood infection and immunity.

Before returning to Cornwall I was a paediatric consultant at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust for 7 years. From 2006 until 2014 I helped develop opportunities for children and families in the South West to participate in high quality research studies, first as Co-Director of Medicines for Children Research Network South West, and later as the Peninsula Clinical Research Network Children’s Research Lead.

I trained in UK paediatrics in Truro, Plymouth, Bristol and Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and in the 1990s I worked for around 18 months as Lead Paediatric Medical Officer in a large government hospital in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. I subsequently spent 3 years with the UK Medical Research Council in the Gambia, West Africa, studying the impact of prenatal and early postnatal nutritional and environmental influences on immunological development and vaccine responses in rural Gambian infants.
