Farah Lone

Generalist with lead in early pregnancy and emergency gynaecology. Miss Lone is a sub-specialist in Uro-gynaecology at the Royal Cornwall Hospital where she has led the development of a service to provide care and treatment for women experiencing urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. She is also the Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust Audit Lead and Urogynaecology member of Scientific Advisory Committee and also a member of the Nominations Committee at The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

She is also actively involved in teaching and training at local, regional, national as well as at international forums. She is a member of The British Society of Urogynaecology and International Urogynaecology Association.

Miss Lone started the regular Urogynaecology MDTs complying with NICE Quality standards. She also regularly contributes to regional MDTs in Derriford and Bristol Urology Institute. It is one of a handful of similar services around the UK and such is the success of the innovative model of care developed in Cornwall, it has been quality assured by the National Institute for Health & Clinical Excellence (NICE) and published as a blueprint for others to follow. Her work has been chosen as top 3 finalists by NICE quality standards 2015.

A large proportion of the patients Miss Lone sees are referred by consultant colleagues in Gynaecology as well as in specialties such as urology, colorectal surgery, neurophysiology or neurology. Most patients are from Cornwall but Miss Lone also takes referrals to the specialist service at RCHT from other hospitals in the region.

It’s been the development of this highly specialised service and her keen interest in scientific research that’s seen Miss Lone’s expertise recognised by the Royal College of Gynaecologists with a 3-year appointment to its Scientific Advisory Committee. The appointment is a first for an RCHT consultant and will see Miss Lone play a key role in future national development of models of care and research.

Miss Lone tributes these achievements to the work of all those who have helped to establish the female urinary incontinence service with special contribution of the community continence team and is really proud of the care we are now able to offer to women in Cornwall and beyond.
