Critical Care Healing Garden goes to the Royal Cornwall Show

This page was last updated: June 15th, 2022

RCHT Charity, together with the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust’s Critical Care, Organ Donation and Building Brilliance teams, will be creating a “Healing Garden in Miniature” at the Royal Cornwall Show, taking place at the Wadebridge Showground this week, 9th – 11th June 2022.
The display, located in the Flower Tent, is being created to raise awareness of the special critical care healing garden, which is to be created within a Trelawny Wing courtyard of the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro later this summer, and to raise further funds and pledges for additional plants and enhanced sensory items for the critically ill patients, their families and staff who will use the garden.Visitors to the stand will be able to experience the new healing garden in 3D virtual reality as well as appreciate the reality of how such spaces are so essential for the health and wellbeing of our patients. There will be a tree in place ready to be filled with leafy fundraising pledges, and beautiful succulents to buy from our very own Critical Care Sister, Rachel Driver.

The garden’s key fundraiser, the renowned explorer and Cornwall resident, Robin Hanbury-Tenison, together with his wife Louella, will be supporting the Stand on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th June. Robin will also be speaking at the Show and telling his very personal story of survival having contracted Covid-19 in March 2020 and how such a garden at the University Hospitals Plymouth saved his life. It is this experience that inspired him to want to raise the funds to create a healing garden for Cornwall’s critical patients and the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

We hope that with his support, alongside the various RCHT volunteers who are attending the Royal Cornwall Show across the three days, RCHT Charity will return to the Trust with brim-full buckets of donations and a beautiful leafy tree full of pledges.
