The outpouring of appreciation for our treasured NHS has been one of the silver linings to emerge from the cloud of the Coronavirus pandemic. The weekly doorstep clap has been a moving gesture for all key workers and of course many have chosen to raise funds or make donations to their local hospitals.

In the past few months, over 100 people have set up online fundraising pages to support Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity and many others have shown great generosity making donations to our Covid19 Fund giving thanks to the NHS teams for their admirable work during the crisis.

At RCHT Charity, we are keen to ensure that funds have a wide reaching benefit for our teams working under pressure at the current time. Teams providing direct care on the frontline but also the myriad of teams that are all instrumental to the delivery of care but often operate behind the scenes – pharmacy, cleaners, IT services, procurement, microbiology to name just a few.

RCHT Charity launched a Covid19 Staff Grant Awards Scheme offering areas across the Trust on all three of our hospital sites the chance to choose how to spend up to £400 for their staff wellbeing. Many have chosen to add equipment to rest rooms with coffee machines, microwaves, kettles and radios all being popular, likewise the Sweet Treat and Break Boxes giving a boost to team morale!

35 teams have now received grants with over 20 grants still to be awarded. The feedback from recipients has shown just how much they appreciate the support and knowing it comes through the kindness of their local community has made the gifts all the more meaningful.

“We have been privileged to be able to deliver gifts to our teams thanks to donations from our community. Giving the choice of how to spend funds direct to the teams has been great! They know best what will give them a boost and improve their rest areas and we have been able to make it happen thanks to the kindness of our local community,” said Karen Murrish, Fundraising Manager.
