Help us build better!

Big plans for our hospitals in Cornwall
Patients, carers and visitors to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in recent weeks will have noticed quite a lot of building work going on. It’s part of a 10-year-plus programme for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals Trust across the sites at Treliske, West Cornwall Hospital and St Michael’s Hospital.

Major plans include:

  • New MRI / Oncology / Haematology Unit (construction has started next to Trelawny Wing)
  • New “Progressive Recovery Unit” (construction has started between Tower Block and Princess Alexander Wing). The PRU will be the temporary home for Lowen Ward from this autumn until early 2023, after which PRU will provide extra beds and space for wards which are displaced whilst the rest of the hospital is reconfigured.
  • New Women and Children’s Hospital (incorporating Neonatology, Paediatrics, Maternity, Obstetrics & Gynaecology)
  • West Cornwall Redevelopment (new Outpatients Department and upgraded Urgent Treatment Centre)

This is a hugely exciting undertaking for the RCHT and for the people of Cornwall.

We’re seeking ideas, views, experiences about how our new projects can be built better – in terms of physical access, internal design and art, digital capability, and environmental sustainability.

We’d like all ages, interests and abilities represented – so if you, or someone you know, would like to help us a build brilliant hospital for the future of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, please get in touch.

So, in the first instance please email us at and we’ll get right back to you. And feel free to let us know if there’s any particular hospital project, or particular area (e.g. digital capability, access, interior design, environment) you’d like to be involved with.

We look forward to hearing from you.
