Important Changes to the Adult Safeguarding Referral Pathway

This page was last updated: April 3rd, 2023

From 3rd April 2023, Cornwall Council will be introducing a new way for adult safeguarding referrals to be made. Professionals will be required to submit all adult safeguarding referrals via a NEW PORTAL PROCESS. Adult Social Care will no longer receive referrals via word documents submitted in emails.
The portal system will be live on Monday 3rd April 2023, accessible from the Council’s safeguarding website Here.

All old referral forms must be deleted from laptops and devices. Any email referrals sent after this date will not be received.

RCHT Professionals: The Adult safeguarding referral process to our team should still be followed – prior to a referral being submitted to Adult Social Care – via telephone on 01872 255741, via Maxims or email rch-tr.SGAdults@nhs.net.

Once a referral is submitted on the portal, a copy of the referral needs to be forwarded to rch-tr.SGAdults@nhs.net.

For any queries on the new process, please contact the Integrated Safeguarding Team on 01872 255741. For more information, please see our integrated adult safeguarding intranet page.

Non-professionals, carers, families and others concerned about an adult experiencing, or at risk of, abuse or neglect, can make a direct referral themselves; by either calling the contact centre 0300 1234 131 (or out of hours on 01208 251300) or via the new portal process – www.cornwall.gov.uk/health-and-social-care/adult-care-services/safeguarding-adults/.

The changes will offer increased flexibility and speed to professionals wishing to make a referral, and increased accessibility to non-professionals needing to make a disclosure and seek support; following best practice across the UK.
