Maternity team’s challenge for International Day of the Midwife

A brilliant show of teamwork by maternity service colleagues cycling from Truro Birth Centre to Penrice Birth Centre to celebrate International Day of the Midwife on Sunday 5 May and to mark the resumption of 24/7 midwife cover at the St Austell Centre.
Although an exhausting and challenging effort some of the participants not so used to travelling ‘Call the Midwife-style’ on 2 wheels, they agreed it was an enjoyable way to raise funds for their Caring For You initiative, supporting staff health and wellbeing.

The birth centre was also host to an Open Day, organised by Lead Midwife Lizzie Anstey and the team at Penrice, showing off the welcoming facilities available for parents looking for a home from home birthing experience. With face-painting, a bouncy castle and stalls the event had something for the whole family and the midwifery team were delighted to be visited by some of the babies born at the centre in the past and by some of the parents likely to be calling on their care in the next few weeks and months!
