“It’s really easy for patients to use,” explains Helen Williams, Transformation Lead for the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. “All the patient needs is a mobile phone number and/or email address on their records and they will automatically be invited to access this service. There are no login details to remember; patients are simply prompted by key details such as their mobile number or email address and date of birth. Patients are sent an SMS or email with a link to follow; they simply click on this link and confirm their details when prompted and enter the online portal”
“To enable Patient Hub to be successful, we need to ensure that we have the most up-to-date contact details on our patients’ record,” Helen continues. “That is why we confirm these details at every opportunity. We want our patients to know to expect contact via this method, and to understand that we will be using mobile numbers and email addresses available on the system for this purpose.”
As well as enabling more timely outpatient information for patients, Patient Hub will have the added benefit of having a positive impact on the environment by eliminating the need to print and post thousands of letters each year.
The first specialties to go live on 21st September 2021 are Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) and the Post-Covid Syndrome Service, after which we will start to roll out across all specialties.
