Regional award for young persons’ volunteering at RCHT

Congratulations to the Voluntary Services Team who have won the National Association of Voluntary Services Manager’s Regional Award for their young persons’ recruitment initiative. Over the past 18 months, the Voluntary Services team has increased the number of young volunteers (aged 18-25 years) by 500%.

Verity Barker and Patzy Dalby, from the Voluntary Services team are looking forward to a next round of young persons’ recruitment in September. They are actively working with the local college and with local schools to promote the volunteering opportunities here at RCHT and from there a career within the healthcare profession.

Verity, pictured second from left with volunteers Eloise, Theresa and Freya, and colleague Patzy, says,

“We are sure that you have seen some of our young volunteers supporting patients in ED, helping out in the Friends Coffee Shop, as well as patient experience and dementia support. We want to say a big thank you to all our young volunteers for their support and to the wards and our volunteer community who work with them.

If you, or someone you know, are interested in volunteering at our hospitals, whatever your age, give us a call on 01872 253737!”

The Regional Award is part of the Excellence in Volunteer Management Awards scheme and the team will now go forward to the national finals in September. Best of luck!
