Post Covid 19 Syndrome Service

This page was last updated: January 31st, 2023

Recovery from Coronavirus will take time. The length of time needed will vary from person to person and it is important not to compare yourself to others. Ongoing symptoms could last for several months after you contract COVID-19 and this can be perfectly normal.

If your symptoms continue or recur beyond the initial recovery your GP can refer you into our Post Covid Syndrome Assessment Service. You will be asked to complete a questionnaire covering a wide variety of possible symptoms related to Post Covid Syndrome. A team of clinical staff will review the information, if necessary assess you further via an online appointment, and then refer you on to the most appropriate services for you.

Background

This service has been established to support people with long COVID also known as ‘Post COVID syndrome’. The pathway has been developed and will be supported by a multi-disciplinary team including GPs with Specialist Interest, specialist occupational therapists in fatigue management, community respiratory physiotherapy, speech and language and dietetics.

The team has established single point access into the service and a pathway based on the latest guidance. People referred into the service will be assessed virtually, triaged for further investigations and/or onward refer to the most appropriate service

What is Post COVID Syndrome?

Signs and symptoms that develop during or after an infection consistent with COVID-19, continue for more than 12 weeks and are not explained by an alternative diagnosis. It usually presents with clusters of symptoms, often overlapping, which can fluctuate and change over time and can affect any system in the body.
