People are given a thorough MSK assessment to provide a clinical diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Clinicians help people to understand and manage their conditions so they can return to their normal life and favourite activities, such as sport, walking and exercise.
The service supports anyone with both acute and chronic conditions, rehabilitation needs, anyone with pain. The team also has close links with other consultant teams.
The service is unable to see anyone who has recently had an operation, or anyone who is still under a consultant’s care. Anyone who is should contact their consultant for advice.
Your assessment appointment will last approximately 40 minutes and wearing comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (if possible) is advisable. This means you will be able to move your joints and limbs freely, which will help the clinician’s assessment of your symptoms
You will be asked details about your medication, weight, smoking status, other conditions you may have and any relevant investigations e.g. x-rays, ultrasounds you may have. This will help the clinician to tailor a treatment plan to your needs, and can help to provide steps to a healthier lifestyle.
The service has access to advanced imaging (x-ray, MRI and ultrasound) and a direct link with the radiology and orthopaedic consultants.
Occasionally, you may need to have a follow-up appointment to review your progress and see if you need any other help.
