Kirsty, mother of two, used the Neonatal Unit for her first birth so felt “it was important to say thank you.” Kirsty added, “The staff work so hard to make you feel comfortable and connected to your child and for a new mum this is so important. Tesco’s have an overarching charity of the year but we wanted to support something more local. Royal Cornwall Hospital’s Neonatal Unit is the only one within Cornwall and has such a special place in our hearts.”
The Neonatal Unit also mean a lot to Store Manager Kevin whose granddaughter spent some time in our care. Kevin said, “Kirsty has worked so hard to raise funds, as a store we could see how important this project was for her and we wanted to support in any way we could.” “It has actually been quite emotional coming back to the Unit today; all the staff do such a wonderful job. Having your grandchild in the Neonatal Unit is emotional for everyone, there were moments when I thought my granddaughter had died in my arms. Thank you to everyone for all their help” added Kevin.
Helen Greenhill, Nurse in Charge, accepted the donation on behalf of the Unit and said “The Miniboos are such a thoughtful donation by St Ives Tesco, sometimes this is the only comfort a parent can give their newborn through the incubators.” Helen went on to explain how the Miniboos will help the bond between mum and baby by improving milk production.
Thank you to staff and customers in the St Ives Tesco store.
