Truro and Penwith Academy Trust have been delighted to receive a generous donation of twenty-four laptop computers to re-use from the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. The donated equipment will be distributed to families needing digital devices to support home learning during the current lockdown.
Karl Simkins, Director of Finance for the RCHT, explains: “Having seen the challenges our local schools are facing to support families in accessing sufficient technology for home education, our IT Services team, who provide IT support to the NHS in Cornwall, have looked at options to help where we can. Martin Price, our IT Security Manager, has been working closely with our partner in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) industry to ensure that the Trust laptop computers that have been identified as being at the end of their useful life are capable of running the latest supported software, and can securely be transferred to the academy for the benefit of students. It’s a great way of recycling the equipment, and it’s sustainable too.”
Dr Jenny Blunden OBE, Chief Executive of the TPA Trust, a multi-academy trust of 28 schools in Cornwall, said:
“We are absolutely delighted with this generous donation of devices from the RCHT. Our priority is to enable all our pupils to access lessons and resources linked to their school curriculum from their home, and this donation will be absolutely integral to helping us meet the needs of both families and pupils, from Pendeen to Liskeard.”
Claire Fortey, Director of Education for the Trust, agrees, adding: “All of our schools are working really hard to engage our pupils and deliver high quality remote learning, but of course none of this will have any impact if our pupils do not have the devices at home to allow them to access this learning. Every single one of these laptops will now go to these pupils, and will enable them to immediately access their studies. On behalf of these children and families, we extend a huge thank you to all at the RCHT.”
