Coronary Care Unit

The Coronary Care Unit specialises in looking after patients with acute and chronic cardiac conditions. We work very closely with the Cardiac Catheter Lab and the Cardiac Investigation Unit, along with a wide range of specialist cardiac nurses, in providing complete care for patients with heart conditions.
We also work closely with South West Ambulance to provide primary treatment for patients suffering a heart attack.

The ward staff are happy to meet with patients and relatives at any time, but we do advise booking an appointment to make sure the right person is available. We also run a Rapid Access Chest Pain Clinic for our patients.

Single Sex Accommodation

Due to the nature of the unit, it is not always possible to provide single sex bays. Although this is quite rare, we can use screens to separate patients instead.

Visiting the Cardiac Investigations Unit

Open visiting on all wards is between 10am and 8pm, 7 days a week

Visiting outside these times can be discussed with the nurse or midwife in charge. See our Visiting Policy.

Top Tips

  • Please introduce yourself and tell us who you are visiting
  • Feel free to help out at mealtimes
  • Do not disturb nurses during medicine rounds
  • When asked to leave a bay or room, please respect our request
