Lowen Ward

Lowen Ward is an 18 bed ward that specialises in looking after haematology, oncology and palliative patients. We also care for patients who need to be isolated and have seven side rooms especially for this purpose.
We have a wide range of speciality nurses and also work alongside community partners and community nurses. The staff are happy to meet with patients and relatives at any time, but we do advise booking an appointment to make sure the right person is available. We also suggest that one person is nominated to call the ward for updates and act as the patient’s single point of contact.

Each week the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and the Benefits Advice teams visit the ward to provide advice and guidance to our patients.

Ward facilities

The ward has access to wifi, and laptops and mobiles are allowed (as long as users are respectful of other patients – it’s a good idea to bring headphones)

We have a number of side rooms that have their own TV and fridge/freezer. We also have a day room with a coffee machine and TV and a quiet room with a TV, X-box and Playstation.

We are also able to have a relative or friend stay on the ward if patients are being nursed in a single room.

2.30pm to 8pm
If these visiting times are not suitable please discuss your needs with the nursing staff.
Due to the nature of our patients’ conditions, we do not allow fresh flowers or plants at any time.

Protected Meal Times

12 noon to 12.45pm
5pm to 5.45pm

Directions to Lowen Ward

Lowen Ward is located on the ground floor of the Tower Block at Royal Cornwall Hospital in Treliske in Truro.

From Tower Block entrance

When you enter through the Tower Block main entrance, turn right and go along the corridor towards the Princess Alexandra Wing. Continue past the corridor leading to the Princess Alexandra Wing, then turn right, go past Wheal Fortune Ward and then you’ll reach Lowen Ward.

From the Princess Alexandra Wing entrance

If you enter via the Princess Alexandra Wing, turn left when you come into the building and continue to the end of the corridor (roughly 100m). Turn right and right again, continue past Wheal Fortune ward until you reach Lowen Ward.
